Featured Project: Pathway at Heritage Park, Olathe, KS
Dr. Kevin Schutte, Executive Director of Cultivate Renewal, has a strong history of community collaboration, notably planting Pathway Community Church in Kansas City in 2005. Pathway Community Church initiated a collaborative project with Habitat for Humanity to provide
workforce/affordable housing, which officially broke ground in January.
This unique development, Pathway at Heritage Park, will feature 14 single-family homes at 159th Street and Blackbob Road, Olathe. It is the first community land trust (CLT) project in Johnson County, allowing eligible applicants to own their homes and collect partial equity while the land remains in a trust to keep homes affordable for future buyers.
Despite initial challenges regarding communication with nearby residents, the project moved forward with significant funding from Johnson County and support from the City of Olathe.
Pathway Community Church pastor Kevin Schutte played a crucial role, emphasizing the church’s dream to give its land back to the community in a beneficial way and explaining the project to neighbors. The project is expected to take around two years for construction, with infrastructure going in first, followed by vertical construction.
This project exemplifies how Cultivate Renewal’s principles of leadership, collaboration, and purpose can translate into tangible community impact, fostering a better life for families and strengthening the fabric of local neighborhoods.
